How was everyone's Valentine's Day? Ours was filled with some great food! :)
We started the day with lunch at Densetsu. My fiance had to take his car in for maintenance (so romantic, right? haha) so I picked him up and went to lunch.

We love this place. The food is always fresh...and HUGE! I had to remind him not to order too much stuff cuz their portions are so big.
He got his usual Miso Black Cod Bento Box (black cod with house miso marinade) $10.95~
Seriously good deal. If you look on their appetizers, just the miso cod alone is like $10. So their lunch menu is da bomb. And just a quick tip...they have lunch specials everyday! Not just weekdays! Soft buttery fish, with a nice salad and gyoza (fried dumplings) on the side. Yum!
I wanted some sushi so I settled on the Rainbow Roll (6 different kinds of fresh fish on top of california roll) $13.95~
It's one of my favorite rolls in general so I knew it was a safe bet. It was even bigger than I expected. haha. One was more than enough, I'm glad we didn't get any more food! Stuffed to the brim with crab and topped with fresh sashimi. Each roll is like a 2 biter at least. Definitely filled me up.
Great lunch. We sat outside in their covered patio. It was such a nice day!! One of the only nice days we've had this month really.. And even though we were outside, our waitress was still very attentive and checked on us often. :) It was just enough food. We didn't over stuff ourselves since we had dinner coming up in a few hours!

My friend had a lunch wedding reception and chose Edo Sushi in Baltimore because it was where they had their first date. Awwww! :) Plus it had a great view on the water.

The sashimi on the ngiri were super fresh. The salmon and white tuna were like butter. Just melted in your mouth. OMG. Delicious!!

The sushi roll presentation was amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a prettier display of sushi. And the Sweetheart Rolls were so cute! My favorite roll by far was the Volcano Roll. The others were ok. The rice was overcooked (one of my pet peeves for sushi) but it's understandable since they are cranking out these rolls as fast as they can! Just look how amazing that is?!?!

In addition to the regular sushi offerings, they also provided veggie rolls and udon for Vegetarians as well as Beef Teriyaki for non-fish eaters.
The beef teriyaki was awesome. Normally I don't care for teriyaki, but this was served on a sizzling plate and was basically a piece of steak. And it was soooo tender and not overly sweet like teriyaki could be.
We stuffed ourselves until we were sick... Literally for some of us. haha. But wait! There's cake!!!

FREAKING AMAZING. One layer was this rich chocolate hazelnut mousse cake with a layer of crispy something. Delicious! I wish I had more room in my stomach for more than one slice! The other layer was this light and fluffly lemon cake with a really light and refreshing lemon frosting. It was a good contrast with the rich chocolate cake.
Definitely go check out this bakery... I wish we had more time to do that.
So the food was fantastic and it was an amazing wedding. I'm so glad to see all my friends from high school! Plus our waiter at Edo was superb!! He made the experience THAT much better! :)
Definitely 5 cookies for the reception food and cake selections!!!!! :D

I've been craving some sushi for the past few days so I googled some places around Plano. I came across this small place called Sushi Town...it had pretty good reviews online! How come I never knew it existed?!?

So I went last night. It's a tiny little place on the Northwest corner of 15th Street and Custer. It has a small sushi bar and maybe 4 square tables. There were only 2 guys working there. One was a waiter and the other was behind the sushi bar. The waiter was really friendly. Business was pretty slow when we first got there, but as we ate more people came in. A lot of to-go orders but by the time we finished the place was full.
The menu is pretty small but they have really good deals. You can mix and match sushi and rolls. 1 is $4.99, 2 for $7.99 and 3 for $9.99. 3 rolls for $10?!? That's awesome! Now we just hope it's good!
Time for dinner!
I didn't know whether to do the mix and match or get one of the bento/combos or a special roll... Ahhh...the choices!
I settled on Bento 5 (8 pieces of Tornado Roll (deep fried white fish and jalapeno roll topped with spicy mayo sauce), 8 pieces of California Roll, 2 pieces of beef Gyoza, Salad with Ginger Dressing, Miso Soup) $9.99~ 
I wanted to keep things light and no fried stuff but the Tornado Roll just sounded so interesting. Plus you know I love my spicy. The jalapeno really sold it for me. It's a cooked roll for those of you that don't eat raw fish. It was pretty good. Nice and crispy on the outside and the sauce was a nice compliment. I didn't taste any jalapeno though. :( The California Roll is pretty normal...quite fresh. The gyoza was super crispy on the outside. I liked it. And I really really liked their ginger dressing on the crisp greens. It's a lot of food and an awesome deal!
So, stupid me.. after I changed my order to the bento I didn't realize I had already put down an order of side salad...so I ended up having 2 salads! haha. No biggie. It was yummy!

I gave my miso soup to a friend so I don't know if it was good or not. It seemed like it was good.
One of my friends got the Mix & Match 3 for $9.99~ Tuna Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Albacore Sushi (2pcs). 
They made a mistake and gave her California Rolls instead so that was on the house and they made the Spicy Tuna Roll for her. So much sushi! :) I only got to try the spicy tuna. Its got a kick to it! I liked it a lot.
Another friend ordered the Ahi Tower (stacked rice, avocado, crab meat and spicy tuna with 3 types of sauces and flying fish eggs) $9.99~ 
It looked pretty awesome! So vibrant and colorful! It turned out to be quite a big portion after you mix everything together. It was delicious. The spicy tuna with the creamy avocado and the rice and the little fish eggs that pop in your mouth... what a great combination. Everything was really fresh too! And this was a killer deal. Any other Japanese restaurant you'll see the Ahi Tower for at least $13+!
One guy got the Combo A (California Roll with 5 pieces assorted sushi: tuna, salmon, red snapper, shrimp and albacore) $9.99~ 
I didn't get to try any of the sushi, but he finished his plate and said it was good!
One of my friends doesn't eat seafood so thank goodness they had a Special Bento (Crispy Pork with California Roll, 2 pieces of beef Gyoza, Salad with Ginger Dressing, Miso Soup) $9.99~ He didn't want the California Roll obviously, so they said he can swap for another roll for $2~ more. He went for the Town Dog Roll (hot dog sausage wrapped in sushi rice and seaweed then deep fried topped with town sauce). 
The crispy pork is basically tonkatsu. It was pretty good. The sauce on it was different than normal tonkatsu sauce. I think it was more of a spicy mayo or something. It worked! The Town Dog roll was interesting. It's basically what the description says. And it was tasty! The rice has a nice crispy crust on the outside and the sauce added a slight sweetness to it all.
This was definitely a nice surprise. I liked everything I tried. Great value for some great food. I will definitely be back in the near future! :)

My bf and I went to check out Cafe Tampopo last night. The new location on Spring Creek and 75 in front of the new 99 Ranch. I think it also has another location in lower Greenville.
It's a small place. Walking in I assumed it was order at the counter, but they actually sit you down and take your order at the table. The decor is simple and clean, nice zen colors. I thought it was really nice.
My bf ordered the dinner special combo: Beef Udon + Spicy Salmon Roll $9.50~ 
The udon was pretty sizable with lots of beef slices in it. The udon was cooked nicely and the broth was full of flavor. Not too shabby! :) 
The sushi was ok at best. The rice was too mushy and I felt like they didn't use real sushi rice but regular rice instead. The spicy salmon itself had a nice kick to it, but I didn't feel like it was super fresh.
I ordered the Tonkatsu "fried pork cutlet" Bento Box (with tempura vegetables, california roll, and orange wedges) $8.95~ 
I love tonkatsu, so I feel the need to try it at every new Japanese restaurant. The bento box was a good size. It also came with a miso soup, which was quite good. The tonkatsu was pretty yummy. It was fried nicely and the meat wasn't too dry. Could've been a little fattier, but that's just my personal preference. The tempura vegetables were fried nicely, I enjoyed those as well. The california roll was ok, same issue with the rice as the spicy salmon. On the whole, it was a good choice.
Overall, the food was surprisingly good. I would definitely go back again but probably not for the sushi. OH...did I mention? It's also BYOB so next time I'll probably take some friends with me! :)

I recently found out about another sushi place in Addison that supposedly has really good happy hour specials. Otaru Japanese Restaurant and Lounge. According to their website they had drink specials all day every day, as well as Buy 1 Get 1 on certain sushi orders. Since Firefly was a dud...(a friend of mine went for lunch and said their sushi was warm...ew...) I hoped Otaru would be much better.
It is located behind TGI Fridays on Beltline and Tollway area. It's a little hidden so look for TGIF and you should be fine. Upon walking in, it's very dark, kind of bluish/lounge-y lighting. The place was empty except for a small group at the sushi bar. Yikes...I was a little worried. I basically chose to be seated at their large table in the back, where it had more lights and felt less dreary.
After some people started arriving, the waitress came around to get our drink orders. They were very nice, but one of them did not speak English well. The menu has a lot of selection and the prices are pretty decent for a sushi place. Since I saw on the website that they had sushi specials, I asked the waitress just to make sure. The first waitress told me they do not have food specials, only drinks. She seemed confused as I was asking her... I was like...what??? So then I asked the other waitress, and she said the same thing, but then went to go check with the sushi chef. She informed us that the sushi chef is going to let us do the Buy 1 sushi get 1 free deal. I was a little annoyed... It was good that they let us do the promotion, even though they are no longer doing it, but please Please PLEASE update your websites people!!! I hate it when places don't update their websites and gives people false hope when they go in. They also told my friends less drink specials than they have posted on their website. Sigh~
Off to a not so great start... So we all ordered our own thing. But I was able to sample quite a few.
I got the Otaru Salad (house salad with ginger dressing) $2.25~ I liked the salad a lot. The greens were crisp and fresh. The dressing was tasty and not over powering. And the bowl it came in was pretty cute.
I ordered the Salmon Sushi $3.95~ and Squid Sushi $3.75~(which were buy 1 get 1 free). 
Both were pretty good. Good texture and quite fresh. I liked how the salmon was a nice thick strip unlike some places that give you a tiny thin piece.
I also got 2 different rolls: 
Futo Maki Roll $4.50~ and Spicy California Roll (topped with Sriracha) $4.50~ The Futo Maki turned out to be Korean style rolls...which I am not a fan of. The ingredients inside the rolls were fake crab, egg, carrot, cucumber and avocado. The flavors were bland and just not very appetizing... 
But I really enjoyed the spicy California Roll. It was basically regular California Rolls with drops of Sriracha on it. The rolls themselves were great, but the sriracha added so much more flavor and that spicy kick. It was yummy! I think I'll ask for sriracha next time I order regular california rolls! hehe.
My sister got the Otaru Ramen (ramen noodle with green onion, nori, pepper, slices of Korean pepper and assortment of seafood) $7.95~ 
It was a pretty large bowl and smelled awesome. The noodles turned out to be the korean instant noodles that you can buy at the supermarket. If you've had Shin spicy noodles, you know what I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong tho, those noodles are awesome. I love the texture. The ramen was good! Spicy broth with lots of different seafood in it. We laughed about paying $8 for instant noodles but all agreed that they backed up the price with the additional ingredients.
Other people ordered an assortment of rolls:
Kamikaze Roll (spicy tuna roll topped with spicy tuna, avocado and spicy mayo) $10+~ 
This was really tasty! I love avocado and I love spicy. It was creamy and spicy and full of flavor. i would recommend this to avocado lovers.
White Dragon Roll (spicy tuna and shrimp tempura roll topped with rice noodle? and jalapeno) $10+~ 
This was also pretty good. We couldn't really figure out what the white layer on top is...texturally it felt like rice noodle. I liked Kamikaze better but this was good too!
Pink Lady Roll (crab and SMT wrapped with salmon topped with blueberry mayo) $9.50~ It was disappointing.. when they brought it we were like...That's it?!?!? There needs to be more food when it's almost $10. haha. My friend said it was good but definitely not worth the money.
King Kong Roll (seared beef, pineapple, and some kind of sauce) $10+~ 
I didn't get to try this but it looked really tasty, and my friend cleaned his plate!
We got a nice surprise at the end of dinner. They brought out 2 sizzling plates of Korean Cheese Corn on the house. I love corn! And sizzling cheese?!? YUM! I wish we had some rice or something to go with it but it was really good. A pleasant surprise. :)
All in all, it was a good dinner. Started out kinda rough, but the food was pretty good. The waitresses were nice but service was kind of lacking. Eh...I wasn't expecting much more to tell you the truth...haha... I guess the food and decent prices made up for the outdated website information and lack of service. I would probably go again to try more of their specialty rolls...and maybe a bento box.
