My friend's friend recommended that we check out the Library Bar at the Roosevelt Hotel. It's supposed to have really cool mixology and good drinks.
The hotel was kinda old styled, pretty cool looking. The Library Bar was a small little room on the side of the lobby. It's a pretty cool place.

When you walk in, you see fresh herbs and fruits lined up on the bar. Just from that you can tell that they use quality ingredients.
From the reviews I've read, I was prepared that their drinks are very expensive. They also don't have any menus. You basically tell one of the 2 amazing bartenders kind of what you like and they mix up something for you. They use farmer's market ingredients, so everything is seasonal and changes frequently.
This usually makes me nervous because I'm very picky about drinks. There's a lot that I don't like. So I told him I like sweet drinks and maybe something with basil? He recommended a Blackberry Basil Mojito $16~
Wow... pricey! But the drink was awesome! I told him it wasn't sweet enough for me and he was totally willing to make it better. They are really masters at their craft and want to give the customers the best drink possible. He told me if I needed anything else to just let him know. He just added a splash more of agave nector and it was perfect. I drank that like it was juice! haha. YUM!
Yellow Bell (bell pepper, rosemary) $16~
This was recommended in online reviews so one of my friends ordered it. It also comes with a fire show! The bartender took two glasses, light some alcohol on fire, and started pouring the fire between the glasses. Sooo cool! At the end he poured the firey alcohol into the martini glass with the rest of the drink. And it lit the rosemary on fire. You can smell the fragrant rosemary. Smelled fantastic. After a while, you blow out the fire and stir the rosemary in the drink to infuse it all. This cocktail was sweet, savory, spicy and full of herbs...and strong! It was fantastic.
The Vampire (raspberries, clementine, jalapeno) $16~
My other friend ordered this. It sounded so interesting. You can definitely taste the spiciness. But it wasn't sweet enough for me. Also very strong.
This was a great recommendation. The place is a cool place to hang out. The drinks were fantastic and I can totally understand the prices. Most cocktails everywhere else are at least $12-14 already and it's no where as good as the Library Bar. The bartenders definitely take care in their craft so be willing to wait a few minutes for them to make your drink. It's also quite entertaining to watch them make it I think. Definitely a special place to check out. :)

**Update 12.30.10**Woodlands Grill is now closed. The Londoner has taken the spot in Watters Creek.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I went to Woodlands Grill in Watters Creek in Allen over the weekend. http://www.woodlands-grill.com/allen.htm
The hostess was very friendly and seated us immediately. It wasn't very busy.
Our waiter warmly greeted us. He was very nice and took our drink orders pretty quickly. The menu items were ok priced and everything sounded pretty delicious.
I ordered the Cobalt Sandwich (grilled chicken, onion, bacon aioli, avocado, lettuce, tomato) $9.50~
It came with a side of fries. The sandwich was pretty good. A little too big to bite into so I used fork and knife. The bread was pretty awesome. It had great texture and nice crispy edges. The bacon aioli added a lot of flavor and there was a ton of avocado. SUPER YUM! The only thing is the chicken breast could've used more flavor, but with all the other ingredients, it made up for it. I would order this again in the future. The fries were also pretty good...thick cut and still had nice crunch.
My friend ordered the Campanelle Pasta (chicken, spinach pesto, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, pecans) $13.50~
It looked really yummy. I love weirdly shaped pasta. The flavor was pretty good, and it had lots of ingredients in it. I would've preferred the pasta to be a little more al dente though. It was a little soft for me...just slightly.
Next time I'm at Watters Creek, I wouldn't mind trying Woodlands Grill again. After I try all the other restaurants of course...hehe. :P
I got an email about a new sushi restaurant opening about a month ago. Fin Sushi & Sake Bar, located on Windhaven and Tollway in Plano. It said that they had reverse happy hour...I was intrigued. Also because I know there's really nothing in that intersection... where was this place hiding??
Fin Sushi & Sake Bar
Got a chance to go one night...we got there around 11:30pm...thinking that they closed at midnight but was surprised to find out that they open til 2am on the weekends. YAY! :) I'm glad more and more places are staying open later in Plano now.
So this place is tucked away in the shopping center on the Northwest corner of Windhaven and Tollway. Just look for the green fish logo/sign. Inside the decor was quite interesting. Certain elements reminded us of places in Asia or New York.
We come to find out that they did not have food specials, but did offer $1 hot sake...and supposedly it was pretty good sake too. Everyone ordered something different...I got to sample quite a bit. :P
First we have the Tempura Stuffed Mushroom with Crabmeat $6.50~
I really liked this dish. I love mushrooms and anything fried is always tasty in my books. hehe. The creaminess from the crab complimented the fried tempura batter very well, and the sweet sauce on top added more flavor.
Devil Roll (Salmon, mixed veggie, Japanese mustard) $4.95~
I ordered this one because I was interested in trying the Japanese mustard. Mannn...it gave a kick! If you've ever tried a tear drop (which is basically pure/raw wasabi...SUPER strong...it makes you cry...no joke!) this has the essence of it but not nearly as strong. I really liked it...at first... After a couple pieces I started not really liking the flavor of the mustard. The kick it gave I enjoyed tho. :) I would probably not order that again in the future.
Rainbow Roll (California Roll topped with 5 different fish) $12.95~
This is always a classic, probably one of my favorite rolls since its got the creamy crab in the California roll topped with an assortment of sashimi. Sounds YUM! The one at Fin was not bad. The sizes of the pieces were nice and it seemed pretty fresh...even at 12 o'clock at night!
Yellowtail Roll $4.95~
This roll was basically yellowtail and green onion. It's very light and simple. I've had better at other places though. I think they needed to put more green onion because I tasted none.
Sashimi Platter (Salmon, Tuna, White Tuna, Red Snapper, Yellowtail) I'm not sure how much this dish was... I want to say around $25-ish~
The presentation looked pretty nice and they were fairly thick cuts of fish which was good. Pretty fresh, the texture was nice, but I didn't like how they put Salmon on top of the lemon (good for presentation) but the lemon completely killed the taste of the fish.
Fin Special Grilled Fried Rice (Grilled fried rice stuffed in Paprika with Mozzarella Cheese) $6.50~
This dish looked interesting to everyone so we decided to order one and try. It was totally unexpected. First of all, I think they had major typo in the menu because it wasn't stuffed in 'Paprika' (which is actually a spice) instead it was in a bell pepper. Looked like they baked the bell pepper with cheese on top, with another side of fried rice...and a dessert of orange??? It was very strange...but looked pretty good. Flavor was a little disappointing...decent...nothing spectacular. The cheese added little flavor. The orange with whip cream was super sweet though...it was kinda like orangesicle!
Overall not too bad. The food was decent and somewhat strange at times. I would probably go back for the sushi sometime. And its nice to know they open late! Also, the waiter was really nice but didn't really know what's going on. All of our questions about the menu received weird/confusing answers. At least he was nice...I guess...haha. So if you are in this area and want some late night food, go check it out. If you are not in the area, I wouldn't make that drive just to come here.
