Korean BBQ in Plano!

Man, I've been so behind in updating this....it's going to be a crazy next few months so I apologize in advance if you don't see many posts from me in the near future...

So this is pretty exciting. We have a new Korean BBQ place in Plano! :) Other than Jin Mi on 15th Street and Korean Garden inside MayHua, there aren't really any Korean restaurants in Plano. Oh yea, there's Naan at Shops at Legacy...but it's overpriced. Plus none of these have Korean BBQ options, where you cook at the table yourself.

Sushi Awaji Korean BBQ Grill
4700 West Park Boulevard
Plano, TX 75093
(972) 596-6500
Price: $$

It's on Park and Ohio, across the street to Sushi Awaji, which also owns the new Korean BBQ restaurant.

The menu is pretty similar to most Korean BBQ restaurants. You can either order to cook at the table or have them cook it in the kitchen. We decided to have them cook it.

At any Korean restaurant, you always get a bunch of free side dishes...one of my favorite things about korean food! This place gave more sides than any other place I've been. YUM! Everything was good! Some of the sides include: kimchi, spicy cucumber, spinach, bean sprouts, spicy squid, cuttlefish, pickled daikon (radish), glass noodles (jap chae)...

We ordered the following:

Kimchi Pa Jun (kimchi pancake) $10.99~ We ordered this to start. The size was pretty big and the flavor was like most other places. I wish it would've been a little more crisp on the outside though, it was a little too soft and doughy for me.

Soon Du Bu (spicy tofu soup with seafood) $?? The size of the soup was larger than most other places I've been to. The flavor was very good...lots of tofu, egg, and seafood. YUM. :)

Pork Bulgogi (spicy pork) $14.99~ This had good flavor, the meat was tender...had enough fat on it to make it extra tasty. The only thing was that it wasn't spicy at all. I love spicy, but it had enough flavor for me not to care.

Spicy Squid $11.99~
The squid had nice texture...was cooked really well...not too chewy. Also not spicy but had good flavor as well.

Teriyaki Chicken $?? We ordered this later, and I didn't get a chance to see the price on the menu. The chicken was very tender and was slightly sweet because it's Teriyaki.

Pork Cutlet (with side salad and rice) $10.99~ A friend of mine ordered this. The pork cutlet wasn't fried in the normal way...the breading looked different. It was ok, I thought the pork could've been more tender, but the different breading made it feel less greasy. It was ok, but I would stick to the traditional Korean BBQ dishes.

Overall, I thought the food was pretty good. The prices were pretty comparable to other korean places. But this one is closer to me so I'm saving money on gas! hehe. Next time I want to try the Galbi...or maybe the $20 all you can eat BBQ!!! I would definitely go back and I hope more people go check it out so it'll stay open!!

  2. Yea...a lot of Korean restaurants are the same way. It's best to have an idea of what dishes you like and have a game plan going in. It's also helpful when they have pictures with the items! :) I usually just point to the menu for what I want. hehe.
